Banteay Chhmar and the temples of the Far North

This map will get you to the temples of Ta Moan and Ta Krabey via the amazing Banteay Chhmar. That's the Far North, right on the border with Thailand... Actually, when we reached Ta Moan we were surprised to see Khmer and Thai military together on the site...

WHEN: we drove these roads in October 2013
DURATION: it took 4 full days
TIP: try to stay 2 nights in Banteay Chhmar, there is a lot to see around!

Roads towards the Preah Khan of Kompong Svay

These roads lead to the mythic Preah Khan of Kompong Svay via Beng Mealea and Koh Ker... It wasn't easy to get there, we tried a several routes but were unsuccessful until, finally...

WHEN: we drove this route in July 2013
DURATION: we took 3 full days. That was a bit short. 1 more day would have been great...
WARNING: we did not do well with our GPS. It went down in the middle of nowhere. Actually, some place after the Preah Khan. The road with light orange and grey milestone is therefore an estimate. However the road is easy to guess. If you have doubts, ask for road 6 (Pleu lek pram moi) or Preah Khan depending on where you go and double check our instructions on the map...
NOTE THAT: locals often name the Preah Khan, Prasat Bakan...
THE TIP: if you travel in the dry season we reckon there is a very nice road from Kulen directly to Sangkom Thmei, aks if it's ok to go...

Crossing the Cardamoms and the Botum Sakor

This track goes through Western Cambodia from North (Battambang) to South (Kampot).

Roads go across the mythic Cardamoms Mountains to the Gulf of Thailand then to the Botum Sakor National Park to the lost Port Town of Thmor Sor, the remote Island of Koh Sdach and then carries on all the way down to the relaxed Kampot.

WHEN: we drove this route in April 2014
DURATION: it took 7 full days, 10 would have been even better
WARNING: between O Som and Koh Kong you might not see many people at all...
MISTAKE: there was this boat leaving from Thmor Sor to Sihanoukville at 5.30 am, it left at 5...
THE TIP: if you want to avoid the very hard part of the road, you should start in Pursat, not Battambang!
